Trade in the Corolla for a Sienna. The 2010s are out and with all the recall hoopla, the deals will be even better in March than they were in February. And if you are looking to lease, the same deals will apply.

Wow! Colin is insanely busy. Poor thing. But the semester is about half way through now so the midterm hurdle is coming up. Good luck. Try to remember that you are both stressed out and both need more personal and together time so that you don't ruin the few spare moments you have with things you wish you didn't say two minutes after you are done saying it. =) That is my only real advise. You are both supper stars so you will make it through with no battle wounds.

WOW! I am sure Colin will pull it off, just because his wife is aware of what he is doing, and is supportive!
My husband finished his bachelors while I was pregnant with our 6th, so he did the same kind of thing, with perhaps not quite so many responsibilities... But, one thing I did was take over as much as I could. In every area. I did the lawn mowing ( which I hate, but delegated to the kids when I could) and all other assorted duties. Knowing that nothing else will be getting done in the house and in regards to any extra things is key. It just is an insanely busy time for Colin, and frankly, for you too, and remembering that will help you out. Say no to everything else you can, reserve time just for you two- weekly dates, or at least an hour or so a week by yourselves- and block off some family time in there too if you can.
Time passes quickly, and this too shall pass. One semester isn't so bad, at least it isn't years! Then, take a vacation or give your family a special treat when it is over!!!

And, yes, I am very impressed!

We never considered a minivan until we had three kids, but let me agree with the above two comments and say- YES!! Mini-vans have lots of room in them, for your kids, stuff, etc... They do not hold 6 kids well though. (Chevy Venture does have 8 seatbelts, but we got it when we had 5 and didn't plan on our 6th, and our kids were still little then) We have unfortunately stepped up to a Suburban now, and probably won't move back down until our kids leave home. The oldest two are adults now, but we also have two boys who are adult sized, and two more to go, so even with just the boys, we will be driving the suburban for a few more years.
Please plan ahead on whatever number of kids you plan on having, add one (just in case..) and make sure your car will fit them all before you buy it. You will most likely have it at least 10 years or so, and planning ahead is key. Remember that they grow, and by 12 or so they are pretty much adult sized people. ( small adults I will give you, but my 15 year old is as big as my husband, and has been for almost 2 years now.)
I love Toyota's. Our Corolla is 9 1/2 years old and has 259,000 miles on it and still going strong!! We use it whenever we go anywhere we are not taking more than 5 people. So, our Suburban gets limited mileage on it. The Toyota van is quite nice, and I have a few friends who have one and LOVE it!!

We have had the best luck over the years with going with what consumer reports says about vehicles, and haven't gone wrong with that. Do lots of research first before you buy. They are expensive and might as well get what you really LOVE and what will last the longest. Good luck!!

Most of the newer Corollas and other cars (I think after 2000 but not sure) have automatic airbag shot off if the weight in the front seat is under a certain amount. Not sure if yours is one of those. You should be able to google an owner's manual to find outI would have to agree with Marcie's comment--go for the minvan--although my brother absolutely LOVES his Honda Pilot (I little pricier, but has 4-wheel drive). I want a minivan and I haven't even had my first baby yet (6 weeks and counting!)

On the one hand, the Magnum is a good looking option. As is the Ford Flex. Good space for people. Just not sure you would have enough trunk space if you were really using the back seat. If you are sure you are only having 3 kids I think it is a great option.

On the other hand, I'll give you the advice given to us after we had Jacob. "Get over yourself and get a minivan." (I like minivans, so there was no getting over myself for this particular purchase. Matt, on the other hand.....) Sliding (automatic!) doors are are so much easier to manage than regular opening ones. It is so much easier to get kids in and out of car seats when they are at your height. Plus, the backseat is truly usable and you'll still have trunk space for the stroller AND groceries. And again, if you are even considering a 4th child during the life of this car, you will want something this large. And, you can actually take people with you and truly have space for them. (Think picking up people at the airport). I've folded down our seats and gotten a couch in ours. And on another trip fit a table and 8 chairs. It is just plain handy to have something this size.

Whatever you can easily drive to Utah works for me!

Thanks Colin for this...I ran a few of the Old Testament Reading Schedule's off.
Your Stake Conference probably doesn't coincide with ours...but one can adjust!! I probably will run the other off too.
Thank you very much! I appreciate it.
Your friend and fellow Facebook(er),

Did you go to the childrens area in the back? I forget what they call it. Its tucked away in the back of the museum and its easy to miss. Anyway, they have a big pirate ship and stuff for the kids to play with. It was nice for us to take a break and relax while the kids played. When we left the area, they gave the kids a book with activities that reinforced what they learned all around the museum.

Hi! I knew Colin when we lived in Calif. for a short time, and have enjoyed reading your blog while at work. I thought I might add to your grateful posting, since it has been a while.
I am grateful for:
Christmas
Family
Kids who love me
a WONDERFUL husband
having enough money to pay cash for all Christmas gifts
a new wii
homeschooling my kids
curious children
a daughter who calls me at work to tell me she sewed up a laptop cover for her new laptop that we bought with cash
A son who helps around the house without complaining- especially the heavy lifting parts
having my baby turn 5 and not having any more baby urges
getting a wheat grinder finally!
homemade bread
mint candy
a whole bag of mint candy in my stocking- thanks Bill!!
trees around our house
snow
great yarn and a yarn store near our house
playing games with my family
a church callling I enjoy- and being able to learn at the same time
great friends
a warm house to live in
Mom and Dad who are still alive
seeing my parents great examples, and watching them serve a mission
Bill's parents, and their great examples- and watching them serve two missions
ice cream- even in winter!
water to drink
a job I like- even if I do have to get up REALLY early to be there
learning new skills
books
librarys
having other peoples kids be bad when I can see it, and knowing that it isn't the parents fault- and so that I know my kids are actually pretty good! warped- yes, funny- yes, mean- probably
sunday afternoon naps after church
the Gospel of Jesus Christ
the Atonement
My Scriptures
my ability to read
reading glasses that make the books clearer
being able to live in a free country
the great servicemembers who serve our country so we can be free
home canned food
gardens
beautiful flowers
a clean house
folded and put away laundry
any job that is done already that I didn't have to do
and last of all, my wonderful, beautiful children, all 6 of them, and the wonderful, patient, loving and generous husband that I married 21 years ago. They are the BEST!

Thanks for letting me think today of all the wonderful blessings I have, and to post some here.
