My new calling
Jul 3rd, 2008 by Bethany
I may have already mentioned that I got a new calling at church last week. I get to be a Nursery Teacher! In my last calling I’d occassionally get to substitute in the Nursery and would always say how much I liked it and would love to serve there officially. I guess God was listening, as usual. I’m excited to be there with both of my kiddos. It’s the perfect place for me right now–snacktime, several other adults in the room to help in case I get sick, a variety of activities, and very simple doctrine. I’ll bet I’ll get to know the parents of the kids in our ward who are our kids age quickly this way, too. Sorry about that convoluted sentence, but I didn’t want to spend the energy to figure out how to clarify it.
My first assignment, besides showing up and helping out on Sundays, is to teach a lesson in two weeks on being thankful for our eyes. I just read through the lesson and it’s going to be totally fun to adapt it to the younger kids and come up with Eye-related actvities.
Sorry to those of you who relied on my Sharing Time lessons, but anyone who is a Nursery worker, stay tuned for my wild Nursery lessons and activities.
I’ve been following your blog for a couple months now & I’m glad to hear you are settling in nicely. I live in Sacramento, and I love California! I hope you enjoy it, too.
I’ll definitely miss your Sharing Time lessons. I went back a while & read some of them. I was just called to be the Primary President (after serving as YW 2nd counselor). I haven’t been in Primary for a while, and have never served in the presidency. So I’m a bit overwhelmed still. Last Sunday I was sustained, and the Bishop had me in charge and running things right from the start. I’ll have to learn quickly. I’m just so glad that the Church and individual members put so many ideas on the internet to help us all out.
Looking forward to reading your Nursery lessons!
Ruth, I’m so pleased that you’re enjoying my blog! I totally understand your overwhelm with your calling, but I’m guessing that you’ll settle in pretty quickly. My best advice (which you’re probably already doing and didn’t ask for, so feel free to ignore it), besides praying a lot which is the most important, is to 1) read your handbooks and manuals cover to cover so you know what you’re doing and know where to go when you don’t, 2) rely on your Stake Primary President and Bishopric advisor for counsel in difficult situations, and 3) delegate to your counselors and involve them in decision making. I wish you all the best, and know the Lord will bless you for your efforts, even the imperfect ones.
Thanks for the advice!
Yea! Blog all the nursery ideas you have, I would love to steal them from you!
) Kelli and I are getting the nursery organized and things are going well – we miss you guys!!
By the way – do you happen to know where the doors are to the nursery cabinets?
