Daylight Saving Time

Forgive me for my negativity on this subject, but I really dislike Daylight Saving Time! I grew up mostly in Arizona where we lived independent of the time-changing madness and since I’ve moved to Savings Time-observing regions I’ve come to appreciate the sanity of the state I grew up in. I’ve researched the subject fully, trying to find a reason to become reconciled to the semi-annual assult on my schedule, and I respect Mr. Banjamin Franklin who came up with it, but I really, really think it’s a crazy idea and can’t believe that we all cooperate with its implementation.
First of all, it’s not “saving” daylight! It’s changing the time so that we stay up later at night because it’s too light to go to sleep. Get up earlier, people! Lately I haven’t been a super-early riser, but I accept that when I get up late I’m going to miss some of my opportunity for sunshine. Perhaps we as a whole turn the lights on a little later at night because theoretically it’s still lightish outside when we get home from work. But what about turning the lights on earlier when we get up in the morning? I just refuse to believe that this trick we all play on our bodies for half the year works to any good purpose.
Second, why in the world would we mess up our biological rhythms just so we can save a little bit of electricity (if, in fact, we save any at all!). My kids’ sleeping schedules are all messed up now, and although I may be able to cope a little bit better than they since I’m an adult, truth be told: my sleeping schedule is a mess, too. It must throw our immune systems off to have to adjust. I wonder if anyone has done any research connecting daylight savings time to flu season. AND WE DO IT TWICE EVERY YEAR!
It’s ridiculous. Have you ever met anyone who thinks Daylight Savings is a great idea? I never have. I’ve met people who are willing to tolerate it so as to avoid rocking the boat, but never an enthusiastic supporter. If you love Daylight Savings, tell me why here because I could sure use an attitude adjustment if it’s available.
HATE, HATE, HATE IT! It has totally destroyed this week! I feel like we are all such a big MESS! If you have read my blog this week, you’ll have seen how crazy I think this idea is!
Hope things get on track for this next week!
