It's almost time for Colin to compile this year's F00 CD, so I thought I'd explain the F00 sensation that may someday sweep the nation. F00 (pronounced "foo") started back at the end of Fall semester of the year 2000 when Colin was heading home for Christmas and didn't want to take all of his favorite CDs on the plane. Instead, he sorted the music files on his computer by the number of times he'd listened to them and burned onto one CD the most-listened-to 80 minutes worth of music. He labeled the CD F00 for "Fall 2000" and then added "Fenom" (as in Phenomenon) for the fun alliteration of it.
Everyone who listened to F00 Phenom was intrigued by the sheer variety of music, including music Colin didn't think he necessarily liked, but apparently listened to often. Thus was born the F00 series. A tidbit of trivia: there is no F001. There is a F002 (pronounced "foo two"), F003, F004, F005, F006, and soon there will be a F007. Since subsequent versions of F00 have been compilations of music that both Colin and I listen to, there's a definitely different flavor to the later versions compared to the original which was solely a measure of Colin himself.
Let me know if you'd like instructions for preparing your own F00. If you want to see a list of the music on the F00s, we've got them listed through F004 here: http://colinandbethany.com/F00/Fenom.php. You can also see the story in Colin's own words there. Be warned: if you decide to make your own F00, you may find that you hate the finished product for a while simply because you're sick of the music you've listened to the most. But we find that we always warm back up to our F00s after a few months' break.
