I was insipred by Julie Beck's (the General Relief Society President) talk in General Conference entitled "Mothers Who Know." What she said made me feel good about the things I'm doing right and made me want to improve where I can. Here is a summary of the talk.
Mothers Who Know…
- Bear Children-"in the eternal perspective, children—not possessions, not position, not prestige—are our greatest jewels." Ezra Taft Benson.
- Honor Sacred Covenants and Ordinances-point your family to the temple
- Are Nurturers-another word for nurturing is homemaking. Home is where women have the most power and influence, therefore Latter-day Saint women should be the best homemakers in the world. Growth happens best in a "house of order."
- Are Leaders-In equal partnership with their husbands, they lead a great and eternal organization. These mothers plan for the future of their organization.
- Are Teachers-Think of the power of our future missionary force if mothers considered their homes as a pre–missionary training center.
- Do Less-They permit less of what will not bear good fruit eternally.
- Stand Strong and Immovable- We are led by an inspired prophet of God who has called upon the women of the Church to "stand strong and immovable for that which is correct and proper under the plan of the Lord."
There is eternal influence and power in motherhood.
