I saw Michael Jackson's Thriller video for the first time this weekend. Colin made me stop when I was flipping through channels because he said everyone in the world but the two of us had seen the video and it was important that we watch it for our cultural education. So, we watched the girl walk out of the scary monster movie while Michael laughed, then he runs after her and tells her he'll protect her from the monters, then the monsters come out and he turns into one and dances with them and chases her around. Hmph.
While I generally disapprove of the video, it was culturally educational. The main character in High School Musical and High School Musical 2 is apparently an homage to Michael Jackson's dancing. Michael Jackson was much better than the HSM kid, but the tone and moves were very similar. It was also the first time I'd seen him as an adult with dark skin (I'd seen pictures of him as a kid as one of the Jackson 5) and he really was a handsome kid. Now I know.
