I was thinking this morning about shopping. I think most stores have a set schedule of sales and deals and such, but I'm not one of those people who keep track of those kinds of things in my head. Someone should make a web page documenting the sale schedules of department and discount stores, don't you think?
I rarely think that my ideas are original, and this is something that someone must have thought of before me. So, I Googled to see if I could find such a beast, but haven't yet been able to find what I'm looking for, but I did find some interesting things.
http://www.blackfriday.info/ A fascinating site dedicated to posting in advance the sales that will happen the day after Thanksgiving. They've been around for a few years and already have several ads for different stores posted.
http://www.homemakingcottage.com/shop/target.htm This page says that Target has a weekly rotating sale schedule that goes like this: Monday- kids clothing & electronics (maybe food also); Tuesday- women's clothes and domestics; Wednesday- men's clothing, toys, health & beauty; Thursday- lingerie, shoes, housewares, sporting goods; Friday- cosmetics, hardware, auto & jewelry. I haven't confirmed that the schedule is real or applies to more than one store, but it could be useful to know this pattern if it's real.
Annual Sales 2005 in Dallas–an article from a Dallas magazine where the writer called every store in the area and got them to tell her when their annual sales would be that year. She got this on department stores:
Dillards: July White Sale: July catalog
October Sale: October catalog
January White Sale: January catalog
March Sale: March catalog
April Sale: See home mailer
Foley's: Monthly Red Apple Sales
Saks Fifth Ave: End of season sales
Not much to go on, but it's something.
