Phoebe and Jonathan Got Married
Aug 30th, 2007 by Bethany
During all this Arkansas drama, my sister Phoebe married Jonathan Hemingway. We drove to Arizona for the wedding and festivities and I had a great time with my family. It was fun to meet Jon's family–they're really nice people who live in or near Salt Lake City, Utah. I think his parents are like my parents in a lot of ways. At the "rehearsal dinner," Jon's dad conducted the meeting exactly the way I would imagine my dad would have. They like agendas and organization as much as my parents do. At least Phoebe will be comfortable with that aspect of life, even though she's not as much of a rigid organizer as the rest of them.
Two nights before the wedding we had a bridesmaid party that Abby set up on behalf of Phoebe. We stayed the night in a nice hotel and went shoe shopping and made dinner together and then got up at about 4am the next morning to get Phoebe ready for her photo shoot at the Mesa Temple. She did it early the morning before the wedding to decrease stress the day of and to beat the heat. Boy was I glad she did when we went outside after the wedding and only had to take five minutes of pictures in the crazy afternoon Phoenix summer heat! I had a great time at the bridesmaid party, even though we were missing Aspen (the maid of honor who had to work) and I had to bring Maggie along because she's still nursing. We really need to get together as sisters more often–and maybe bring Nephi along and make it a sibling party.
The day before the wedding we took Phoebe to her photo shoot, then went to the church to set up her reception stuff. Our aunts and some good friends of my mom's from her ward (and old Young Women leaders of ours) did a huge amount of very appreciated, but volunteered, work on nearly every aspect of the reception. It was beautiful. My sister Emily was the creative designer and coordinator as far as I could tell and she had planned everything out with our parents and coordinated the look of every aspect of the wedding. There was a lot of periwinkle blue and white (Phoebe's colors) in a kind of French provincial style.
The cake was gorgeous and I've got to get her to remind me of the name of the shop that made it because the flavor was wonderful. Then I'll put it on my blog so those of you who are planning Phoenix area weddings can use them. Our friend Theresa Service did the flowers, which were all perfect and beautiful. Phoebe's dress was really a princess dress and she looked very comfortable and happy and beautiful in it. Our Stake Young Women President from when we were teenagers made her veil, which added a perfect touch to her hair. Enough hyperbole, you say? Alright, but apply it to the rest of your imagination and you'll have a good idea of how nice it was.
So, congratulations to Phoebe and Jonathan and we hope your marriage is as happy as ours. Love you both!
