Night at the Museum

This weekend we rented Ben Stiller's Night at the Museum and enjoyed it. It's a cute, light kid's movie about a guy who's the night guard for the Museum of Natural History in New York and discovers that everything in the museum comes to life at night. Robin Williams plays an endearing Teddy Roosevelt and the actress who plays the mom from Spy Kids is the leading lady of sorts and I like her acting a lot. There are a lot of other big names in the movie, like the amazing Dick Van Dyke and Mickey Rooney (who doesn't seem like he should be getting old–he's still a teenager playing opposite Judy Garland in my head), and it's fun to see people you recognize. I think my favorite character, though, is the Easter Island head/statue who calls Ben Stiller "dum-dum." They somehow made that really, really funny.
There were a couple of less-than-appealing moments, like a monkey peeing on Ben Stiller. And he says the A-word once that I noticed. The only other disappointment for me was the special features on the DVD. The only features were commentaries, one by the director and one by the screen writers. Neither were enthralling and we turned them off before reaching the halfway mark. Other than that, it was a fun movie to watch.
