The Lake House

The Lake House is a movie we saw this week with Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves. It's another Jane Austen adaptation, this time on the book Persuasion. It's about two people who correspond with each other, but who are living two years apart (i.e. she is writing him from two years in the future). I expected to hate this movie, but was pleasantly surprised and actually enjoyed it.
It's very clean, and the only thing I can remember about it that's inappropriate is that they refer to unmarried people living together. But even that isn't explicitly stated, if I remember correctly. The story follows the isolated pair through personal and family crises and they support each other through their letters. I was surprised and oddly happy that the story never attempts to explain exactly how the time issue worked, it just treated it as the couple did–as strange and unbelievable, but actually occurring.
The Lake House is a moderately interesting romance-drama with a happy ending (which I always like) and I recommend that you watch it if you're in the mood for that. It wasn't a light film, and both Colin and I ended it somewhat drained, but satisfied and pleased.
