Happy May Day!
May 1st, 2007 by Bethany
Happy May Day everyone! I hope you've all had a wonderful day. The weather here was mostly warm and sunny, turning to overcast in the evening and ready to rain. I love rain and I love sunny, so it was perfect.
For some reason I've always been interested in May Day traditions, but I've never celebrated it myself. I especially like the idea of hanging bouquets of flowers on neighbors' doorknobs, although I've never actually tried it. Maybe next year. And then there's the May Pole tradition, where people dance around a pole with ribbons tied to the top. I've never seen it actually done, unless that's what they're doing in the movie My Fair Lady when the kids are dancing with ropes around a pole in the background of the song "A Little Bit of Luck." Is there a special dance that weaves the ribbons in a certain way around the pole, I wonder? Oh, I just found some on the internet! Very interesting.

Hey! And I just found out that in the United States May 1st is officially a legal holiday called "Loyalty Day," which started as pretty much an anti-Labor Day/anti-communist day.
Okay, so celebrate May Day as the coming of summer and as Loyalty Day because it's fun and happy and excuse to be nice to people and ignore the pagan stuff. Yay!
