This weekend Degen and I crashed the end of a birthday party. My neighbor has twin boys who just turned seven and they had a pirate birthday party. Degen saw the kids outside waiting for their parents to pick them up at the end and wanted to play, so we walked across the street to say hi.
It looked like it was a successful party. Teresa (the mother) had put up pirate flags in her lawn next to the sidewalk. All the kids got dollar store plastic swords and I even saw a couple with eye patches. She got a cake decorated with blue icing that looked like water, and I didn't see it, but I think she put a plastic toy pirate ship on top and wrote happy birthday on it. The kids said they made treasure maps and went on a treasure hunt in the house.
Teresa got her boys razor scooters for their gifts, one in red and one in blue. Everyone was playing on tricycles and bicycles and scooters in the street when we got there. It's so nice to live on a quiet, dead-end street where the kids can play in the road and not get hurt. We still try to keep them out of the road, of course, but it's nice to not have to worry so much.
