I’m going to get a haircut today, courtesy a birthday present from my mother-in-law and sister-in-law (Kim). I really need one. I haven’t even had a trim in over a year now. I’ve spent months with my hair pulled back in a ponytail and now that I’m wearing glasses I generally feel rather un-presentable. The plan is to keep most of the length this time, but to trim it up and give it some personality and purposefulness.
I spent much of the morning talking to my sister, Emily, on the phone discussing good ideas for haircuts. She even drew me an idea of what she thinks might look cute. I called a salon in a reputable shopping center and told them I needed to make an appointment with someone who would do a consultation with me before they cut my hair and take it seriously. So, I’m off to have my hair cut in about 15 minutes at David Douglas Salon in Provo.
I have an oval face, which is generally considered ideal because any hairstyle looks good on me. Of course, my completely straight hair that’s hard to curl doesn’t lend itself to softness, and my personality isn’t into harsh, straight lines right now. Maybe I just need a new curling iron… I don’t want anything too trendy that will make me cringe in 10 years, I want something that looks good with my glasses, something I can tuck behind my ears, and something that takes 15 minutes a day or less to do. I want something feminine and pretty, something I can go to church and young women in, play with my kids in, and go visit Colin at work in. So, I want a playful, conservative, easy, mature haircut. That shouldn’t be too hard, right?
Wish me luck!
