My Sister Abigail

I’m working my way down the sister list. Abby is my next sister after Phoebe. She’s easy to brag about because she has a lot of recognized credentials, including graduating from MIT as a nuclear engineer and having a full-tuition scholarship to Harvard for her Public Health master’s degree. She’s definitely smart. She’s not snobbish or stuck-up, either.
Abby was the first athletic one in the family. She played volleyball all through high school, and I still feel guilty for never going to see her in a game. I heard she was pretty good. She did drama in high school, too, and I know she was good at that. She played Adelaid in Guys and Dolls, I think. And she’s done theater stuff since. She made costumes for a bunch of plays at MIT, too.
Abigail is an artist. She made a really cool eyeball batik once that I think got lost or given away. Emily just reminded me that Abby was great with charcoal, too. She got awards for her artwork in high school, but I don’t know how much she’s done since.
She took a trip to Uganda a few summers ago to help orphans of people who died of AIDS and discovered that non-profits and NGOs that help people overseas are sadly disorganized and uncoordinated and thereby found her “calling” of sorts. Public Health is her major because she wants to learn what it takes to really help people in the long run and then coordinate organizations overseas. Abby has always had a lot of compassion for people in distress and has always thoughtfully tried to help them without making their lives more messy. She has a really optimistic attitude that makes it easier for her to keep up the good work, too.
So, my sister Abigail is smart, thoughtful, compassionate, humble, and optimistic. Oh yeah, and she’s pretty, athletic, artistic, energetic, and industrious. And she’s a good friend and sister. And she likes me, which makes it really easy to like her.
