I like Freecycle. I like the idea of not dumping things other people can use. I like the idea of not driving to Deseret Industries (or DI–our local thrift store) and of not having a pile of stuff in my entryway or garage for months that I meant to take to DI.
Here’s how it works. You go on to Yahoo! Groups and find the local Freecycle group for your city or county or neighborhood or whatever. Then you sign up and start getting emails full of people offering things that they don’t want anymore. Of course, there are the people posting things they want for free, but there is usually a pretty good balance of offers to wanters. You can then start emailing the group when you have extras. If you want anything anyone offers, you email them and then they decide of those who ask to take what they offered who they like the best and contact them and set up a pickup time.
